A graduate of our public schools, Hal Heiner earned undergraduate and post-graduate degrees from the University of Louisville.

A hard worker and focused on success, Hal put his skills to work after graduation designing roads, bridges, sewage and water treatment facilities, airports, floodplain protection and neighborhood and business park design.

Hal began planning new residential communities and business parks in many cities while remaining based in Louisville. This work in Louisville, Orlando, Indianapolis, and northern Virginia helped him understand different government approaches to building communities and economic development, and he came to understand that no city could compete with the overall potential of Louisville.

In 1997, Hal Heiner founded Capstone Realty, which helped bring more than 4,000 jobs to Southern Jefferson County at a time when most new development was in East Jefferson County and 1,000 additional jobs to the region.

Having had a strong interest in local politics but a distaste for corruption, Hal decided to use his business knowledge to serve the people of Louisville and move the community forward by running for election to the Metro Council.

Since being elected to the Metro Council for the 19th District, Hal has spent seven years focusing on finding efficiencies in services, shedding light on the inner dealings of Metro Government and finding smart ways for our community to grow and prosper.

Hal's been married to his high school sweetheart, Sheila, for thirty two years. They are the parents of four children: Julia, Hal, Jenna and Mya and have two grandsons, Daniel and Noah.

For the last thirteen years, Hal and Sheila have raised crops on their family farm bordering Floyd's Fork. Hal is active in numerous local charities and, with his family, attends Southeast Christian Church.

When Hal is relaxing, you can find him working on the farm or enjoying the outdoors while kayaking, bicycling or hiking.
